The Pythia was the name given to any priestess throughout the history of the Temple of Apollo at Delphi. The priestess was a woman over fifty years of age, lived apart from her husband, and dressed in a maiden’s clothes. According to Plutarch (a greek biographer and essay writer), who once served as a priest at Delphi, the Pythia first entered the inner chamber of the temple. Then, she sat on a tripod and inhaled the light hydrocarbon gasses that escape from a chasm on the porous earth, although this has not been corroborated by modern archeological research. After falling into a trance, she mutters words incomprehensible to mere mortals. These words are then interpreted by the priests of the sanctuary in a common language and delivered to those who had requested them.

Nevertheless, the oracles were always open to interpretation and often signified ambiguous or even opposing meanings. This can clearly be seen in the case of Croesus the king of the Lydians which wanted to know if he should wage war on the fledging Persian Empire. The reply he got was that he would destroy a great empire if he did it. Satisfied with this answer, Croesus prepared to invade Persia, little did Croesus know that the “great empire” referred to by the oracle was not that of Persia, but his own. Today the oracle has disappeared since during the 5th century AD, these area was the site of a Christian archbishopric and to construct churches and a basilica using the marble of those ancient constructions wiping away every evidence of the great Delphi oracle.

To visit Delphi city, I opted for this Levi’s shorts, I always put in package some of this kind of shorts, I think is a versatile and stylish piece that you can combine with almost everything, no matter if you are going to know the city during the day or if you are going to dance with friends, you just need to add a statement top with an ankle heels and you are ready to go. It was very hot during the day, but when the sun goes down the temperatures drop gradually, so I added this white man shirt knotted in my waist, you already know I’m a fan of man shirts (here and here), I paired it with my flat espadrilles that I told you before that they were the most comfortable shoes I carried with me during this special trip to Greece (here and here). The accessories gave the final touch to this simple outfit so I added this colorful scarf around my neck and these maxi golden earring that I recently purchased and I’m fascinated with them.

Hope you really like it and tell me what do you think about it on the comments below.

Sending you a lot of kisses and so much love
