Las Amazonas eran una tribu enteramente de mujeres guerreras, se creía que vivían en la ciudad de Temiscira, cerca del Mar Negro, en una region que hoy forma parte de Turquía.
Las Amazonas eran famosas por odiar a los hombres, a los que tenían prohibido vivir junto a ellas.
Para preservar su raza, según cuenta la leyenda, solían visitar una tribu cercana masculina, los Gargareans, una vez al año. Estos eran una tribu solamente de hombres y las Amazonas los usaban solamente para procrear, a veces incluso estas relaciones eran forzadas por las Amazonas.
Ni Amazonas, ni Gargareans podían sobrevivir a menos que las dos tribus se unieran para procrear. Sin embargo, las Amazonas solo se quedaban con las hijas que daban a luz, si nacía un hijo varón, los mataban, los dejaban que murieran en el bosque o se los devolvían a sus padres en la Tribu de los Gargareans.
Entre las más famosas reinas estaban Penthesilia y su hermana Hippolyta, la primera de estas lucho en la guerra de Troya, la infame guerra entre Griegos y Troyanos en la ciudad de Troya, y su hermana era la dueña de un cinturon mágico que le fue dado por su padre Ares, el dios de la Guerra. Este cinturón fue uno de los objetos que Hércules tuvo que recuperar para completar las doce tareas que le fueron impuestas por su medio hermano Euristeo, dando vida al mito de “Las doce tareas de Hercules”
La tan esperada película “La mujer maravilla” trata de una Amazona de sangre azul, desempeñando el papel de la princesa Diana, hecha de arcilla por su madre la reina Hippolyta y dada vida por el aliento de Afrodita, convirtiéndose así en una semi diosa. Entre los regalos que recibió de los dioses olímpicos explican sus poderes de superheroína, los que se manifestaron cuando se transformó en el famoso personaje de “Mujer Maravilla”
Curiosidades: Cuenta la leyenda que Las amazonas solo tenian un pecho, el cual era cercenado por ellas mismas para poder usar el arco y las flechas con más facilidad……

The Amazons were famous for being all women and for hating men. No men were allowed to live alongside the Amazons. In order to continue to preserve their race, these women used to go and visit the nearby male tribe, the Gargareans, once a year.
The Gargareans was a tribe made entirely of men, and the Amazons used them purely for procreation, sometimes forcing the men to mate with them. Neither the Amazons nor the Gargareans could survive unless the two tribes came together to create children, however, the Amazon women hated men so much that they could only keep the daughters that they gave birth to. Any male children were killed, left to die in the forest or returned back to their fathers in the Gargarean tribe.
The most famous Amazon queens were Queen Penthesilia and her sister, Queen Hippolyta. Pentehesilia took part in the Trojan War, the infamous mythical battle between The Greeks and the Trojans at the city of Troy and her sister was the owner of a magical girdle given to her by the god of war Ares. The magical girdle was the object that Heracles had to recover to complete the twelve tasks imposed to him by his half brother Euristeo giving birth to the Myth of the twelve labours of Heracles.
The long awaited film version of Wonder Woman is about a blue blood Amazone, as Princess Diana formed from clay by her mother Queen Hippolyta and given life by the breath of Aphrodite, she is a demi- god. The gifts she receives from the gods of the Greek pantheon explain her superheroin powers, which become evident when she transforms into Wonder Woman.
Note: Legend has it that Amazons were one-breasted women. Legends say that the women removed a breast in order to use their bow and arrows more easily……
