As every week, I love to share with you all a different kind of articles besides fashion, as many of you already know, yoga is one of my disciplines and hobbies, because I have to admit that I really love this kind of practice. I notice that can be truly myself when I’m practicing it, without any judgements and negative thoughts. I’m practicing yoga since five years ago, when I used to live in Spain, but the kind of yoga that I really know and practice is Bikram or Hot yoga, as it is known here in the States, but I’m always seeking and looking for information about any type of this way of life. In Miami we have a lot of free classes during the week of different styles of yoga, so when I have time I love to attend to these great classes to live the experience in a master class. Even when I’m still practicing Bikram, I recently added Vinyasa yoga too and I’m really amazed how this combination works so well to my body.

Recently I read a very interesting article about another kind of yoga so as I always do, I’ll love to share with you how many benefits can bring to your life if you practice yoga regularly….

Postura del bebe feliz/ Happy baby pose

Restorative yoga is a deeply nourishing and nurturing yoga practice. It will help to restore physical and emotional balance. It consists of held postures that do not push the body beyond its natural range of movement. In a Restorative class props and blankets are used to provide support for the body. Each posture is held for 5 or more minutes whilst focusing on a slow and steady flow of breath. In an hour and a half of Restorative class you might only get to practice 6 to 8 yoga postures. A Restorative yoga class is very slow moving which provides a wonderful opportunity to counteract the stresses and strains of everyday life

Postura de la Paloma dormida / Sleeping pigeon pose (do both sides)

Restorative yoga really highlights and deepens that connection between the flow of breaths and the natural ability to release tension and realign itself, as the breathing becomes slower the body stars to soften and tension is able to leave the body. It then enters a space where is able to heal and free itself from unnecessary stress and tension, as you notice this you can tune into the body and discover where tension is stored within your body and you can then work with this knowledge and direct your breath to those tighter areas of the body.  Breathe into the area and in your mind, just ask that part of your body to soften and release. This kind of yoga is a very kind practice and never puts the body under any stress or strain.

Torsion de columna / Supine spinal twist (do both sides)

For many of us life is, or can get, busy and sometimes it becomes fast moving and frantic, whether through work, family life or just because it’s presenting new challenges and changes. Whatever you current circumstances are, Restorative yoga can provide support to help you cope with whatever life brings your way. Even if your life is not busy and challenging at present, this kind of yoga is still an amazing practice as it will keep you feeling healthy, free from tension and well balance. It is also an amazing practice for sports professionals and those recovering  from injury or illness and quite simply anyone. Restorative yoga also helps to prevent many stress related conditions and combat many minor aches and pains.

Piernas arriba contra la pared / Legs up the wall

When practicing Restorative yoga at home, you can use a few pillows or rolled up towels if you do not have yoga props such as blocks and bolsters so that you can still provide support for your body. Your main objective is to make sure that your body is supported so that you do not move beyond your natural range of movement. You will find that when you settle into the posture, any obvious areas of tension will present themselves, which is to be expected. But then as you hold the posture and relax further into it, smaller areas of tension begin to present themselves, and perhaps they are new to you. By working to free these areas of tension now, they won’t present a problem later. You will also find that by working to reduce tension within your range of movement will increase safely without any force or applying any unnecessary strain to the body. It is important that you practice Restorative yoga in a warm space and use a blanket to cover the body if necessary.

No matter what kind of yoga or workout you practice, make sure to be aware and notice how you feel doing this in order  to see how many benefits you will receive…

Hope you enjoy reading this article and the most important to close to you this amazing practice.
