Si os parecido interesante no olvidéis compartirlo en vuestras redes sociales y suscribiros a nuestra newsletter y no os perdáis ninguna publicación.

Miles de besos y mucho amor

Last September we were so lucky, because we prepared our holidays a little bit longer than we usually do. During all those years that we lived in Spain, we never visited Greece, We usually prefer to go to other places that maybe were too far or something of the sort because especially this place was so close and we could visit it in any other moment. Now you can see how much your life can change in a blink of an eye, we came to live to US and now that we are in the other side of the world we decided that we couldn’t delay this trip.

Since I was a child, the greek culture fascinated me, it’s one of the most ancients cultures of the world and its myth and legend always caught my attention. I’ve always been a reading lover and I remembered I had a book about myth and legend of the Greek Mythology, I’d like to know where it might ends up. Today’s post I would like to share with you besides one of the photo that we took there, one of those myths and a little bit of history of this wonderful place.

One of the required stops if you go to Crete Island is Knossos Palace in the heart of its Capital Heraklion and also known as Minos Palace. According to the legends surrounding the early city, King Minos hired the Athenian architect, mathematician, and inventor Daedelus to design his palace and he did it so cleverly, that no one who entered could find their way back out without a guide. The labyrinth within the palace which was built to house the half man/ half bull, The Minotaur. In order to keep Daedelus from telling the secrets of the palace, Minos locked him and his son Icarus in a high tower at Knossos and kept them prisoners. Daedelus fashioned wings made of wax and bird’s feathers for himself and his son and escaped their prison but Icarus, flying too close to the sun, melted the wax of his wings and fell to his death.
Knossos Palace was destroyed and re-built at least twice. The first palace was destroyed 1700 BCE and re-built on a grander scale. This palace had four entrances, one from each direction, all leading to the central court. As the corridors within it where dark and circuitous, it is though that this give rise to the story of the labyrinth of Minos.

The city of Knossos and almost every other community in the center of Crete, was destroyed by a combination of an earthquake and the invading Myceneans at 1450 BCE with only the palace spared. The eruption of the volcano on the nearby island of Thera (Santorini) in 1600 or 1500 BCE has long been held a major factor in the destruction of the city and the second palace.

For centuries Knossos was considered only a city of myth and legend until 1900 AD it was uncovered by the English archaeologist Sir Arthur Evans and excavations were begun. Through frescoes on the walls, the excavated site revealed more about the Minoan sport of bull jumping. The possibility that this kicked off the legend of the Minotaur became more acceptable once it was understood that, in the Minoan sport of bull-jumping, the male athlete became one with the bull as he vaulted over the bull’s horns. This sport, then, it is now supposed, gave rise in ancient consciousness to the myth of the Minotaur through the impression that these athletes were half men and half bulls. The story of the labyrinth also was given more credence once the intricate interior of the palace was uncovered.

To visited this amazing place I wore this wonderful jumpsuit, (sold out but similar here and here) you already know that I love to wear this kind of clothes especially when we go to travel due the limited baggage that we usually have during flight. You can also see (here and here) how much I love jumpsuits. For the occasion I paired it with these amazing flat espadrilles, you can even imagine how comfortable they are, and the hippie touch I gave it with this oversize sunnies and the scarf on my hair give it to the outfit the touch of color.
